Desert Unicorns

The Unicorns are a race of shapeshifters that live on an island archipelago that ranges from sandy deserts in the lower areas (around their capital city) to lush tropical rainforests in the mountains. They are a unique culture that holds dancers and entertainers in high regard, tend to be more openly sexual than other Avean cultures and worship a solar deity. Both male and female unicorns are seen as equal, though different breeds are prioritized above others on the social scale. The royal family chiefly consists of Arabians, whereas the guards and warriors are generally draft breeds.

Unicorns can take a humaniod form and tend to spend most of their time in this, as it is technically their "real" (natural) form. They can, however, also take on a purely equine form as well and they can shift between these forms easily at will. Their horns hold their magic and each unicorn tends to have their own talents with magic, though some things, such as understanding multiple languages, are overarching talents that all unicorns are capable of.

The Unicorns are (surprisingly) carnivorous, though they do also eat small amounts of fruits and sometimes even vegetables, but only as a compliment to a main course of meat. All Unicorns have pointed canine teeth (fangs) and long, hard nails (claws). These traits also carry to their equine forms, though their claws translate to sharp, sometimes cloven hooves. Their diet primarily consists of birds, small mammals and occasionally fish and larger prey, such as boar or gazelle.

Each of these unicorns is part of the Arabian breed sect, so they all have noble blood. All Desert Unicorns are almost always aligned with an element from which they draw their magic.
